Greening Supply and demand of Construction materials: Advancing Eco-Labels and Sutainable Public Procurement for climate and biodiversity protection
Thailand Environment Institute, through its Green Label and Environmental Label Program, has been supported to implement the “Greening Supply and demand of Construction materials: Advancing Eco-Labels and Sustainable Public Procurement for climate and biodiversity protection” project under the EcoAdvance Project by the Consumption and Production Unit, Industry and Economy Division of UNEP (United Nations Environment Programme). Its mission, objectives and goals focus on creating systemic change related to sustainable consumption and production (Sustainable Consumption and Production: SCP) to support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially Goal 12 on sustainable consumption and production as following:
- Promote sustainable production: Develop and support production that uses natural resources sustainably, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, water and energy consume, and supports a circular economy.
- Promote sustainable consumption: Encourage consumers to adopt behaviors that support environmentally friendly consumption, reduce waste, and use more sustainable products.
- Develop SCP policies and strategies: Work with governments, businesses, and civil society to develop policy frameworks that support the transition to SCP at the national and global levels.
- Create international partnerships: Collaborate with international organizations, businesses, and NGOs to raise awareness of SCP and share good practices.

In this regards, “Greening Supply and demand of Construction materials: Advancing Eco-Labels and Sustainable Public Procurement for climate and biodiversity protection Project” has aim to:
- Develop new and improve existing criteria for building material product groups especially cement and steel.
- Promote harmonization and mutual recognition in the building sector with other ecolabels in particular in the ASEAN countries.
- Encourage the integration of ecolabel criteria into public work service contracts in the building and construction sector in Thailand.
- Support SMEs entrepreneurs in the building and construction sector transitioning to green economy and sustainability to learn more about ecolabel and obtain a certification.
