Continuing from the importance of biodiversity in environmental issues, it is crucial as a foundation for the country's development in terms of the economy, society, and the environment. Various organizations related to the country's biodiversity have come together to organize the International Conference on Biodiversity 2023 (IBD 2023) from December 12 to 13, 2023, at the Royal Garden Rama 9, Bangkok.
The event was graciously presided over by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. The IBD 2023 aims to provide an international platform for showcasing the collaborative efforts of individuals and organizations, both domestic and international, working in the field of biodiversity. It also aims to elevate the capabilities of Thai researchers in research, conservation, and the utilization of biodiversity to create a sustainable economy, society, and environment.
The host organizations for this conference include the Suan Luang Rama 9 Foundation, Chai Pattana Foundation, Office of the Royal Development Projects Board (ORDPB), Kasetsart University, Jittaradada Institute of Technology, International Mangrove Botanical Garden Rama 9, Office of the National Economic and Social Development Council, National Research Council of Thailand, The National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA), and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration. Additionally, various public and private sector organizations support the conference, including the Thailand Environment Institute (TEI) and the Thailand Business Council for Sustainable Development (TBCSD).
TBCSD, in particular, has identified biodiversity as a new focus area to drive the business for biodiversity, demonstrating the power of businesses coming together to contribute to sustainable development. During the conference, Dr. Wijarn Simachaya, President of TEI and Secretary-General of TBCSD, participated as an organizing member and delivered a keynote presentation on the 'Role of the Private Sector in Contributing to Biodiversity Conservation in Thailand.
